Your Child's First Visit

A kids orthodontist plays a significant role in your growing child’s dental health, appearance, and self-esteem. The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that a child should first visit an orthodontist by the age of 7. At this age, orthodontists can properly monitor the transition from primary teeth (baby teeth) to permanent teeth (adult teeth), as well as monitor the growth of your child’s jaws. What happens at the first visit?

When you arrive at Odhner Orthodontics, our Clinical Assistant will take some quick pictures of your child’s teeth. If recommended by the orthodontist, we may also take a panoramic x-ray which allows us to see how all the teeth are developing. Next, Dr. Odhner will then do an examination to evaluate the growth and development of your child’s teeth and jaws.

After the examination, you and your child will then meet with Dr. Odhner to discuss if any orthodontic treatment is recommended at this time. There will be time to address any and all questions or concerns you may have. If treatment is recommended, our Office Staff will explain the cost of treatment, any insurance benefits you may have, and discuss our flexible payment plan options. We will always work with you to choose a payment plan that works best for you.

What if no treatment is required?

It’s common to find that your child is not ready for orthodontic treatment at their first visit. In which case, we will recommend a time when to return to our office so that we can monitor their growth and development properly.

There is no fee for this first visit, which means the pictures, x-ray, exam, and consultation are all complimentary. You should expect to spend about 30 minutes with us.

Our goal is to serve you in a fun and supportive environment. Join the 7&Up Club or let’s talk about teen braces.

We look forward to meeting you and your child for their first visit!
